Residential fire in Cass County sends five to hospitals Sunday night

Five people were taken to hospitals after a fire late Sunday night in rural Cass County, Missouri.

The Belton Fire Department said crews responded to a residential fire near 187th Street and Y Highway.

Firefighters from the South Metro Fire District, West Peculiar Fire Protection District, and Grandview Fire Department assisted with mutual aid.

Firefighters said significant damage was done to the home.

Three others were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

On Monday, the Belton Fire Department said the fire was considered accidental in natural and it was caused by "improperly charged or stored lithium-ion batteries."
